Aug 11th, By Mike Sokol Category: What follows is 3 in a part series about basic electricity for RV users and how to protect yourself and your family from shocks and possible electrocution. This series of articles is provided as a helpful educational assist in your RV travels, and is not intended to have you circumvent an electrician. The author and the HOW-TO Sound Workshops will not be held liable or responsible for any injury resulting from reader error or misuse of the information contained in these articles. If you feel you have a dangerous electrical condition in your RV or at a campground, make sure to contact a qualified, licensed electrician. Reruns Last week we learned how to read a basic Digital Volt Meter and test a or amp standard outlet such as you might find in your living room or RV interior. Only use one hand to touch the meter probes or campsite pedestal. If the ground is perfectly dry you should be safe wearing dry sneakers. If not, then put a dry rubber shower mat down on the ground to stand on while checking voltages. Always make sure to turn off the circuit breakers on the power pedestal before plugging or unplugging your RV from campsite power.
Philippine Electrical Wiring – Building our Philippine House
A brand new GFI comes from the factory in a tripped state and cannot be reset till it is hooked up right and power turned on. They are under the impression that the outlets there are not already protected. This may not be true. It doesn’t actually hurt to double-protect, but it can get confusing. For instance, if something at the bathroom outlet tripped a GFCI, it might trip the device that had been added right there as an “upgrade,” or else it might trip the original one in the garage — whichever one happened to respond more quickly.
If you don’t know the complication, you won’t be looking in the right place to restore power.
Circuits in the residence are generally wired to supply VAC to outlets using the two VAC load wires, much the same as a heavy appliance dryer, hot water heater etc.

By admin Electrical Hum: Here are a few explanations for where that electrical hum could be originating from and if it needs professional attention: Try switching your light bulbs to rough service bulbs, which are sturdier and vibrate less. Mains hum If you get the electrical hum from electrical wiring or equipment, this can be known as mains hum. This is normal, and usually occurs from the vibration of these appliances with motors switching on and off. Sometimes audio equipment can create and amplify a mains hum.
Sometimes improperly grounded wires or wires are carrying too many volts buzz and an electrician must come out to repair it. Never try to fix your electrical wiring yourself! Try turning off all your breakers and bringing them back on one by one to find the source.

Planning the project Say you need a bright yard light way out in your yard or a remote outlet to power a pond pump or electric tools. All it takes is a little electrical moxie and a willingness to dig a shallow trench. In this article, we show the easiest, quickest and cheapest method to safely run electricity outdoors. Our method involves directly burying UF underground feeder plastic shielded cable 12 in. For this project, you should have the fundamental wiring skills it takes to make proper connections and the basic electrical and carpentry tools.
Allow about a day to complete this project, assuming you collect all the parts in advance.

Ground and Neutral Wiring for a Volt Range. Can I install a 3 wire cord on a new stove and strap the neutral and ground on the stove terminals? I have an older house with an old 3 wire range. The receptacle is wired with 2 hot wires and a un-insulated twisted aluminum conductor for ground. The replacement stove has a 4 wire, 2 hots, neutral and ground.
The new stove uses the the neutral for all the v circuits. Is it legal to install a 3 wire cord on the new stove and strap the neutral and ground on the stove terminals? This would make the ground at the receptacle a current carrier. Thanks for your electrical question Jeffrey. Wiring a Volt or Range Cord.

Wiring your Philippine house. As part of our project to build our house in the Philippines, we had to learn about Philippine residential electrical systems. As with our other writings, we do our best to chronicle our missteps as well as our successes, so that our readers get slice of reality about coming to the Philippines and building a house, not a fairy tale. The transformer serving our house Our pole-mounted meter. From the standpoint of electrical engineering theory, the Philippine system is similar to that used in the U.
From the utility pole to the residence panel box we have one or two load wires and neutral conductor. We have a ground earth provided by the homeowner.

The neutral white and the bare ground wire MUST be on there designated connection. In the diagram above the bare ground is indicated by a green line. The bare wire should also be grounded to the electrical box if metallic. Be sure to use the properly rated electrical box designed to be used with a dryer receptacle.
The breaker used must be a dual double 30 amp v breaker. If you were to measure the voltage between a red lug and a black lug they are not really those colors in the panel, just used here for explanation purposes , you would measure v, if you were to measure between a black bus lug and a ground or neutral bus, you would measure v, and the same would hold true if you measure between a red bus lug and the ground or neutral bus.
The replacement stove has a 4 wire, 2 hots, neutral and ground.
Make sure that the white wire is wrapped with black or red electrical tape at both ends of the cable to identify it as being a hot wire and not a neutral wire. Wiring a Dryer Outlet Electrical Question: I need help wiring a volt outlet for a dryer. The line was not in use and does not have an outlet, it is a 3 wire line, white, black and bare copper wire.
I bought a 3 prong Volt outlet. The instructions say to hook up the white wire to the L shaped prong and the two hot wires to the 45 degree prongs. I tested the lines with a multimeter and the voltage between the white and bare copper wire is v, v between the black and cooper and v between the white and black. The two hot wires are the white and black and the bare copper wire is the neutral?
Wiring a 3-Wire Dryer Outlet
But in addition to the volt electrical supply, there may also be lights, fans, a refrigerator, or other electrical devices which use a 12 volt supply, like that of a car or truck. A volt DC system powers the RV refrigerator to keep food cold while the RV or camper trailer is moving from place to place. The same goes for the lights and fans.
Most problems can be repaired easily if you understand how the system works.
That means if you’re replacing a dishwasher, you only need to break these connections from the old appliance and reattach them to the new one. Shut off power at the breaker panel and close the hot-water valve under the sink first, and be sure to unscrew the old unit from the underside of the counter before pulling it out. The existing electrical wiring is still good, but both plumbing lines should be replaced. Dishwashers come with drain hoses, but you’ll need to buy a supply pipe—preferably copper tubing, which TOH plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey uses instead of braided steel.
Copper lasts 60 to 80 years—longer than any dishwasher. However, check manufacturers’ literature—some companies’ models must be supplied with hot water. The most difficult part of the installation may be snaking the copper tubing through the cabinet without kinking it.
