Opening Season March 2018!
Drought situation with several warm ups have kept the snow totals low. There are several good factors about this. One is there is a very good chance we can start fishing on April 1st. Some years there is too much ice for us to get in the marina. But more importantly a less harsh winter bodes well for the newly hatched or stocked fish in the lake. A wet spring is also important.

Fishing Report — 19 January Friday 19, January, Its been a pretty windy last few days making it difficult to fish offshore but the next days looks promising on the weather front. Before the blow the inshore bottom fishing was excellent with both sand and tiger flathead in great numbers. On the gravel edges snapper have been good with morwong, pigfish and the odd kingfish from the reefs.
Both Long Point and Haycock has fished well and it should only get better after the blow. Further offshore the marlin action was pretty good before the weather, l suspect it will be the same when the game crews get out there. On the beaches the salmon action has hotted up after the last month being quite tough. Most beaches are holding fish with Tura and North Tura the pick.

Today a bottom fishing trip was planned. We spent the first part of the day bottom fishing and then we decided to up anchor as the fishing was not the best and spent the remainder of the trip trolling. In the morning we caught a sierra tuna and some small reef fish. Well done to Noah aged 6 that caught his first tuna. On board today was Hank, Miguel, Thomas and Noah. The first part of the trip was spent bottom fishing where many small reef fish were caught.
The second part of the trip where we spent trolling – unfortunately no fish were caught.

I did not hook into any, but there were guys that did. Small metals, Swimshads, Bucktails, etc. They were fishing the back bay area with their Dad. Didn’t get out as early as I wanted but still had about 40 minutes to fish. That was the only hit I got this morning. Beautiful conditions out there at the moment. He had 3 short bass this morning before going to work. The action was there but much slower than Tuesday. Chris sent me this message and report on Twitter: I’m going to try tomorrow morning again.
Let you know what happens. I was on the beach again in the morning and lost a few in the wash.

Weather is crucial in deep sea fishing and FishTrack offers accurate marine wind and swell forecasts.
The trout fishing has been excellent, provided you are using the correct methods. Staff member George fished with mate Jim earlier during the week and they cleaned up again. With bright, sunny conditions the fish were holding a bit deeper but also biting more tentatively, with small size 14 hooks and corn kernel sized baits getting the bites. Using finely balanced coarse floats and 4lb mono gave every bit of bite detection from these fish. Customer Zoran fished the pondage over the weekend and found some nice fish again.
Powerbait and ‘hatchery trout dough’ was the most effective for him. Staff member Don fished with mate Sam up on the pondage on Monday where they caught around 40 fish. Don and Sam caught a lot of school sized rainbows, with some bigger fish to around 6lb coming ashore also. If you are unsure of the gear being used currently at the pondage, come in and talk to the guys in store – as between them they’ve caught over fish from the pondage in the last week alone, and these methods work excellent on all stocked lakes.
Middle spit the go for whiting Jan 25 The whiting fishing in westernport has picked up a bit over the last week or so, with some better size fish on the go. The hot areas have been the middle spit and also the Yaringa end of quail bank. Many fish over 40cm have been around, with the average size being about 38cm.
