John Deere Hydraulics

How to Replace a Hydraulic Hose Farm and heavy equipment uses a hydraulic pump, valve spools, and cylinders to perform their tasks. These components are interconnected with a series of steel tubes and steel reinforced rubber hoses, and the hydraulic oil may eventually begin to leak through these hoses, making it necessary to replace them. It can be a dirty job, but doing it yourself can save considerable expense and time. Steps 1 Locate the problem hose. This may be obvious if the hose has burst, since they typically handle oil at over PSI pressure, and one that bursts will discharge a large amount of oil in a short time. If the situation is a small leak, though, you will need to observe where the oil is dripping, and follow the wet trail it leads to the source. Never use your hands or body parts to find the leak.

New Holland is very good about keeping up the part schematics for their old tractor models, and that will help.

Attaching a remote hydraulic system like this allows you to add hydraulic accessories like a log splitter, hydraulic blade, hydraulic top link, hydraulic auger motor, etc. By using an open center valve, the oil will flow along its normal route to the three point until you pull the handle on the valve.

The valve will then divert the oil to raise or lower your hydraulic accessory. The oil flow to your accessory can be reversed by pushing the handle the other direction. Locate the hydraulic pressure line small line along the frame. Use the tubing cutter to cut out a section of the small high pressure side of the line in a straight section not on a curve or your compression fitting wont work in a place where you can get to easily.

Remove all of the paint about 1″ back from the cut ends and tighten the compression fittings on both ends of the steel line. You may need to remove the line or loosen it from the pump. To do this you may also need to remove the fender and step.

Hydraulic systems use liquid under pressure to perform work. Designing and building a hydraulic system requires some mechanical knowledge and specialized components, but the results can allow a machine to do jobs it would be difficult to do otherwise. Steps 1 Understand how a hydraulic system works. There are basically four elements to the system, as well as possibly many smaller associated components for specialized purposes. Here are the basic four and a brief description of each.

This is a tank or other container that holds the fluid to supply the rest of the system.

In a bad mood anyway, got bunch of rain last night was was hoping to work ground today.

Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic or other lines. Tighten all connections before applying pressure. Protect hands and body from high pressure fluids. Any fluid injected into the skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene may result. Doctors unfamiliar with this type of injury should reference a knowledgeable medical source. Some newer Kubota models come factory equipped with a hydraulic junction block which means interrupting the hydraulic circuit to draw power is fast and straightforward — simply connect your hoses. In this article we describe how to get started tapping the hydraulic circuit if you have an older Kubota or one not equipped with a junction block. High and Low Pressure Lines The first step is to locate the high and low pressure lines that run along the side of the transmission housing. The steel lines are two thicknesses — thin and thick.

The thin line is the high pressure line which comes directly from the hydraulic pump. The pressure this line carries is significant!

Relief Valve It’s simply a pressure relief pop-off, similar to what you might find on a shop air compressor.

Auxilliary hydraulics are often required when operating implements fitted with hydraulic cylinders. Single acting cylinders The most basic hydraulic take off is for single acting cylinders which feed and return through a single hydraulic hose. This type of connection is the cheapest but has the disadvantage of waiting for the lift arms to raise completely until oil is diverted to the implement cylinder. Remove the standpipe cap and replace with a switch over valve.

The hydraulic hose will then be attached to this new fitting. This setup has the advantage of alternating between feed to the tractors lift arms or implement.

Edwin Sargenti Hydraulic steering can make or break a trail machine. An inadequate system can over-exercise arm muscles while making tight maneuvers very frustrating. Or, if well designed, a hydraulic steering system can actually contribute to the overall enjoyment of a day in the dirt. That’s because the amount of physical effort it takes the driver to turn the steering wheel relates directly to how well the hydraulic system functions.

A poorly designed system or even a simple misuse of parts for a particular application can result in sluggish, and hard-to-use steering wheel – not to mention the ill effect on reliability.

Job and experts like him also will tell you how hydraulics has advanced from simple lifting to powering implements, taking the place of the tractor PTO.

Ford hydraulic hookup for loader Don’t forget to check the hydraulic fluid level in the rear end after you run the loader cylinders back and forth to bleed them, as you will probably have to top it off, depending on how much old fluid was left in the loader. You should also keep an eye on the tractor’s hydraulic fluid for awhile, not just the amount in the sump, but the clarity of the fluid as well, as the oil that was still in the loader may be old and could contaminate the hydraulic fluid in the tractor.

That noise that you heard when you pressed on the lever was most likely the pump straining because you stopped the flow. The pump runs whenever the tractor engine is running, that’s called “live hydraulics”. Your tractor uses what’s called an open center hydraulic system, which means that when the pump is not actually doing work, there should be a path for the fluid to flow from the pump back to the sump.

When that lever is in its normal position, the fluid is being pumped through the 3 point lift control valve, and when the 3 point lift isn’t actually in the process of lifting the arms, the lift control valve automatically bypasses the flow back into the sump. When you push that lever, it diverts the flow from the 3 point to the remote connections, but since there was nothing connected to the remotes, the fluid had nowhere to go and the pump was straining, basically creating pressure but no flow.

It is OK to do it for a second or 2 once in a while, but doing it often will shorten the life of the the system, either the pump or the seals or both. Once the loader is hooked up, you can open the remote valve without fear, as the loader control valve should also bypass the flow back to the sump when it’s not actually moving the loader cylinders, the same way that the 3 point lift control valve does.

Jodie Wehrspann Jan 01, Most of the world doesn’t think tractor hydraulics is very exciting. But engineer Rich Job thinks it is. For instance, Job will tell you how, when he was a boy, it saved his back by lifting implements on the farm. Job and experts like him also will tell you how hydraulics has advanced from simple lifting to powering implements, taking the place of the tractor PTO. The science has advanced so far that in some cases you don’t even have to move a lever or touch a switch to get the fluids moving in a direction you need them to go.

All that’s taken over by tiny computer processors on valves and pumps that can shout out commands faster than our minds can even process them.

Use control lever A to turn chute in both directions:

Search This Message Board: Hydraulic connection for Front end loader Ron I have a front end loader mounted on the tractor and now the final hookup has to be made from the high pressure line to the control valve and back out to the high pressure line.

Is there a way to do this without cutting into the metal line? I was told I would need to cut out a short section of the high pressure line and braze a 90 degree fitting on each end, then hook up my in and out lines thereby putting my loader in sync with the 3 point hitch. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks chris They make a compression fitting for this job that doesn’t require the torch work, just cutting the line, cleaning the outside of the line, and installing the fitting.
